Tucson Pool Shade
Shade over the deck, the steps and the ledge, so the pool is usable on a July afternoon.
Tucson Shade Sails has installers who design pool shade sails for backyards across Tucson. Pool shade in Tucson is about the deck as much as the water: bare concrete and stone decking can get painfully hot by early afternoon.
Posts around a pool have to dodge the shell, plumbing runs, the equipment pad and any gas line to a heater. We locate those before choosing post spots, along with the Arizona 811 ticket.
Layered triangles are the most common pool design. They let us cover an irregular deck and leave open sky over part of the water.
A sail over the chairs so people can sit out between swims.
Two or three triangles at different heights for coverage and depth.
Shade on the tanning ledge and entry steps where kids spend the most time.
Posts placed in planters or gravel beds away from the coping and equipment.
| Item | Why it matters | How we handle it |
|---|---|---|
| Post locations | Shell, plumbing and gas lines run under the deck | Locate lines first, then pick post spots |
| Sail height | Clearance for diving, slides and rinsing | Corners set to suit how the pool is used |
| Runoff | Debris and rain shouldn't drain into the water | Low corners pitched toward a planter or gravel bed |
| Fabric choice | Sun and chlorine both age fabric | UV-stabilized shade cloth and stainless hardware |
Inside Tucson city limits, sails over 400 square feet, or any sail used as a carport or patio cover, need a City permit. We check your layout against that line before ordering fabric.
Keep any new post well away from a pool barrier, so it doesn't become a climbing aid. We plan post spots with your fence and gate in mind.
Rain washes dust off the fabric, so we pitch the low corners away from the water toward a planter or gravel area.
Sometimes, if the deck is cut and the footing is drilled where no plumbing runs. Posts in surrounding beds are usually simpler.
Most people prefer partial shade: the deck, steps and ledge covered, with open sky over part of the water.
Splash-out is mild, but stainless hardware and UV-stabilized fabric hold up best around a pool.
